About 'MR YAKKERBOO'

I worked on Mr Yakkerboo as part of a group project based on the prompt "Hidden World" and the Mr Yakkerboo sculpture designed by Julie Squires in Pakenham. For this project, I created the first environment (the travel agency), worked on the lighting for all of the shots, completed some of the creature animations for the Yakkerboo and created an asset incorporated into my environment.

Asset Design

I created this asset using a combination of Maya, Substance 3D Painter, and ZBrush. I began with Maya to model the base of the shape before taking it into ZBrush to add more detailing to the model - all the visible scratches and dents. Finally, I created the texture in Substance 3D Painter to design a stylised texture fitting for our animation and environment.

Travel Agency

For the Travel Agency environment, I followed a similar workflow to the table, only this time I didn't use ZBrush. The building was designed in a modular fashion and was relatively simple in design as we wanted this environment to feel utilitarian and mundane. After modelling in Maya I created the stylised texture in Substance 3D Painter by setting a filter onto my base colours using the ambient occlusion map.

Lighting

For lighting, I went about using a range of approaches utilising Maya's different lights such as a combination of the directional light and the physical sky, point lights for highlights and area lights for inside and to add colour.
